Should I exchange money before arriving in Egypt?

You generally get a better rate inside Egypt than at home, so bring some clean USD or EUR notes and exchange at banks, official exchange offices, or withdraw Egyptian pounds from ATMs (which are widely available). Egypt is still largely a cash society: keep small notes for taxis, tips and markets. Larger hotels and many restaurants take cards, but don't rely on them everywhere. Tell your bank you're travelling so your card isn't blocked, and avoid changing money with people on the street.
