How do I use the Cairo Metro as a tourist?

The Cairo Metro is cheap, fast and a good way to skip traffic. There are three lines; buy a ticket at the station kiosk or machine (fares depend on the number of stops) and keep it until you exit. The middle carriages are reserved for women, which many female travellers find more comfortable, especially at rush hour. Avoid peak times (8–10am and 3–6pm) if you can, watch your belongings as on any busy metro, and note that some major sites are still better reached by ride app.
